WHAT GOES TOWARDS THE LIGHT CONCEALS ITSELF IN DARKNESS AT THE SAME TIME.
EXTENDING TOWARDS THE TWO OPPOSITE POLES, BETWEEN ROOTS AND BRANCHES, PLANTS ARE NOT THE ONLY ORGANISMS TO EXPERIENCE THIS DUALITY. WE, HUMANS TOO, NEED LIGHT AND DARKNESS TO ALLOW OUR NATURE TO EXIST.
This project was born out of a need for ACCEPTANCE, to remind myself not to be too hard on myself, to embrace even the darkest part of me, the part that sometimes takes over and doesn't let me out of bed for days. Dichotmy wants to embrace the complexity of our being, to love our bright part as much as our darker one, understanding that in their union lies our balance.
THE ORIGINS
There was no doubt that once again I would find my answers by OBSERVING NATURE.
Back home, after a heavy night, I found myself sitting on the sofa contemplating my little soya plant.
It had only been a few days since I had planted its seeds and now it was already there leaning out towards the sunlight that was coming in, through the small window. It hadn't hesitated for a moment to choose its path, it had grown following its instinct, its inevitable NEED FOR LIGHT. I felt so distant from that fearless little being, me who kept plunging into the thickest shadows, losing myself in dark paths. Night fell and I was still there, sitting on the sofa, now contemplating nothing but the DARKNESS that had devoured space and swallowed its elements, including the small plant and its resilience.
In the deepest gloom I finally saw what did not belong to the world of light... ITS ROOTS! The other half of my plant, was stretching out into the depths of the earth in order to lean stably towards the light.
